Rinse your mouth with warm salt water and gently floss around the sore tooth to remove any trapped food debris. Apply a cold compress to your cheek if swelling is present. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gums, and call our office immediately.
Pick up the tooth by the chewing surface (crown)—never touch the root. Rinse it gently with water if dirty, and try to place it back in the socket. If that's not possible, store the tooth in a cup of milk or saliva and rush to our office. Teeth replanted within 1 hour have the highest survival rates.
If your crown falls off, keep it clean. You can apply a tiny dab of dental cement or toothpaste inside the crown and slide it back over your tooth as a temporary shield. Call our office to schedule a quick re-cementing visit before the underlying tooth shifts.
